Durham Dales Lying between the Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland National Park the Durham Dales form part of the North Pennines, designated one of England’s largest Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Dales, which make up one third of the County, offer some of the country’s finest scenery - a blend of rugged upland, impressive waterfalls, gentle river valleys, wildflower meadows and drystone walls.Weardale was once the hunting ground of Durham’s Prince Bishops.

Westgate In Weardale
This village marked the western entrance to Stanhope Park, the Prince Bishops’ deer park. The area is renowned for its wildlife and Slitt Wood, now a site of special scientific interest, is the location for picture perfect walks, waterfalls and the remains of old lead mines.

The Old Vicarage
Like other Vicarages, The Old Vicarage originally belonged to the church, but has long since been privately owned as a family home. St. Andrews church can still be seen across the paddock and adds a touch of historic charm to the views in this direction. With it's large garden as well as the paddock, there's no shortage of space outside this rural gem.The Old Vicarage has 6 generously sized bedrooms, with high ceilings and large windows in each room. The main bathroom , which adjoins the hallway and has a separate door off the master bedroom, is not only generous in size but also keeps the feeling of home . There is also a shower room and end toilet room upstairs. The lower level of this massive house is sure to please just as mush as the upper level, comprising of a lounge, a sitting room, a library, dining room, kitchen, and lower level toilet, as well as several closets and cupboards which due to their size could be considered rooms by their own right. To those still in need of room there's a small conservatory porch off the back entrance which is perfect for growing your plants year round, not to mention an entire basement/cellar with indoors coal bunker.Words could never do justice to this place, as it is definitely a one of a kind home packed full of character and charm, and the only limits on what you can do with the house itself are the limits of your own imagination and vision. This is one property where seeing really is the only way to believe! I have made a small presentation video on the next page to give a taste of only a few of the charms of this home, followed by a small video of the surrounding countryside and views.

The Current Owners
David & Ann Young bought the Vicarage back in the late 1970's as the family home to raise their 3 children in. Over the years Mr. & Mrs. Young have seen many changes, not only to the vicarage, but to their lives, the children have grown and moved away, familiar neighbors have come and gone, friends moving away to retire in the sun.....yes many changes have taken place one of which is the Young's are now in their 70's and just not able to keep up with a house as immense as this one. Physical difficulties make the maintaining and upkeep of this large property just too much for 2 retired pensioners. David & Ann have loved their lives in this beautiful house, many a lasting memory was made here, but they both agree it's time to let someone else make happy memories in this lovely home, and have now chosen to sell. Watch the videos and see why they stayed so long in this exquisite part of Northern England !
